June 13th 8:30 am – 4:00pm
East Campus Building 3 Atrium

In February, thanks in large part to the Valencia Foundation and the Maguire Family Teacher Endowed Chair, I had the honor of attending TEDActive2013. There, I experienced the true power and wonder of TED.

I was able to speak with Sugata Mitra, the 2013 TED Prize Winner, and hear his plans for the School in the Cloud. I saw new products like an electric skateboard that goes up to 6 miles on a charge, the superhydrophobic Ultra Ever Dry, and a smartphone powered, avatar robot that lets grandparents play with their grandchildren from anywhere in the world. I was blown away by Taylor Wilson, the kid who built a working nuclear fusion reactor in his parents’ garage at the age of 14, who talked about how his new idea for small modular fission reactors that may soon solve the global energy crisis. I was in awe of Stewart Brand’s talk on de-extinction; the reality of Jurrasic Park is apparently closer than we know, and I was mesmerized by artists like Amanda Palmer, Shane Koyczan & Liu Bolin. Of course, these were only 9 of the 85 unbelievable TED talks I experienced in Palm Springs.

I am happy to announce that on June 13th, 2013 Valencia’s East Campus will host TEDxValenciaCollegeLive in the atrium
TEDxValenciaCollegeLiveFlyer of building 3. During this day long event, Valencia students, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to experience the power and wonder of amazing TED talks.
