A Great Ted-Ed About the Effects of Massive Incarceration on Minority Communities

Happy Friday! I just wanted to contribute this important lesson which pertains to the effects of mass incarceration rates on minority communities. The reason that this video grabbed my attention is because a student raised his hand this last semester and asked, “Is the War on Drugs a war on black men?” – I had never heard this question before and it led to me conduct a great deal of research. There is a grain of truth to this supposition. The next time that I teach my students about the War on Drugs, I plan to have a discussion about the effects of mass incarceration rates on American communities as well as the permanent loss of voting rights that many convicted felons face after they have served their time.
