Strange Names for Strange Places

This is a 4-minute video featuring Mitchell and Webb – 2 British comedians.  The topic covered in the video is exploration, and how newly discovered lands acquired their names: Virginia, the East Indies, New South Wales,  and Greenland.  It can be used in the classroom as an introduction to exploration and colonization – or as comic relief if students become bored or disinterested in lecture material.

Intro:  I discovered this Mitchell and Webb video (4-minutes) through a fellow history professor and fell in love with it.  It is a farce on British explorers and how their newly discovered lands get their “official” names.
