Storing Data in DNA

Where do you keep your data? Do you store your files on on your home computer? in your Dropbox? on your Google Drive? on Facebook?

New research may change the way we store our data in the future. Researchers out of Columbia University say the new strategy allows for 215 petabytes of data to be stored on a single gram of DNA. To help you visualize that, one petabyte holds approximately 20 million 4-door filing cabinets full of text.

So, if they are close to accurate, we are talking 4.3 billion 4-door filing cabinets full of text in what amounts to a drop of DNA? Watch the video below or click here if you would like to learn more.
